Crappy sounds

I wonder if you have pet peeve recordings that you feel would have benefited from other drum/cymbal sounds? I know it's real subjective but I thought it would be a fun topic.

Personally I can't stand the crash cymbal on Reeling in the Years by Steely Dan! It ruins the song for me...

The cowbell in the begining of Fear The Reaper always drove me nuts. It's really loud. It must have drove a few people nuts, because, they wrote a sketch about it on Saturday Night Live!

Can we just ignore that St Anger existed?

Basically any metal album recorded after 1990 sounds awful drum wise, there are exceptions but in general...

Worst I have ever heard though... Pray for Villians by DevilDriver every single drum sound just terrible

Never liked (still don't) the gated snare sound and the toy-sounding electronic drums of the 80's. Ick! It was an affront to acoustic drums and drummers. (Nevermind people danced up a storm by way of them.)

I have a Travis CD (Scottish band) and the snare sounds terrible!

Sounds like the wires are barely tight on the bottom........ruined the whole CD for me.......

Van Halen's drum sound gives me the shudders.

Also, when you listen to a recording, and you can barely tell the difference between the attack of the kick drum and the crack of the snare. Also, when the sound of the snare gets lost underneath the sound of the high hats. If I think of some examples, I'll post them...

1970 Ludwig Downbeat
1965 Ludwig Hollywood
1970 Ludwig Jazzette
