Cracks in slings set-o-matic tom bracket

Loading...

Hello,

I have attached a couple of photos of the tom bracket on my slingerland set. As you can see there are cracks on either side of this particular piece. The other tom on the set has similar cracks. These drums have gigged continuously for over thirty years. I don't over tighten anything. Sometimes I have forgotten to tighten the bolt and have just left the tom loose on the post. I don't know if that would cause these cracks. I tend to think not and rather this is just a sign of use. I I have a couple of other brackets at least one of which shows no signs of cracking.

Is there any repair for this? If I put the un damaged bracket on, is there something I can do to prevent this in the future. If I'm lucky I may get another thirty years out of them!

Thanks of your wisdom,

John

Not much you can do to save them. There made of pot metal. Heat from a welder will just melt them like butter. I have tried. It turn's in to a nice blob of gray mess.

There on Ebay all the time. Just replace them.
