Crack in shell

Loading...

I have an old drum (30 years), and noticed it has a hairline crack about 4" on the inside going strait up and down, staring in the middle if the shell and going to the inside of the bearing edge.

Should I do something?

The wood is dry because it's old. Should I fill it so it doesn't crack? Will leaving it make the crack worse.

Are cracks in old drums just part of owning vintage drums?

Can you take a good, clean pic of the shell and crack? I do some online how to vids, follow the link in my signature and you will go to my youtube, then just ignore any of those showing me with drum sticks in hand...trust me on this, it is painful to watch...really. Look around, there is one for a cracked shell, and others for delamination and cleaning.
