corrosion and rust

Loading...

Hello,

I've polished some lugs of my Premier (must have been 40 years ago when somebody did that the last time). I used Brasso, and Metaseul (I like that last one more).

As you can see, it's nice and shiny, except from some corrosion. I've read the restoring guide on http://vintagesnaredrums.com/how_to_vintage_snare.html , which talks about Whink Rust Remover, but since I'm living in Belgium and not in the US, I can't buy Whink here. The only product I've found to get rid of rust is Hammerite (http://www.hammerite.com/uk/products/rust_removers.html). I don't know these products, and I'm scared it will also bite off the chrome. Does anyone have any experience with these products?

As you can see, some other parts of my drum kit are worse. This is the worst part of my kit, in fact. Is there anything I could do to it? Should I rub off the chrome flakes and polish it?

Nope, once the rust takes hold that is it.

You can replace them, re-chrome them or

just clean them up the best you can.
