Correct Ludwig Eyelet Size/Type

Loading...

Hello, were all of the eyelets on Ludwig drums made of brass? Does anyone know the correct size? Tried searching this site but didn't find the info I need.

I've recently been shopping around for eyelets because I'm going to be wrapping a kit soon and noticed that some dealers sell "Ludwig Brass Eyelets". My drums are boxed and nowhere near me, so I can't see them.

I've got a kit with B/O badges. Were the eyelets on those particular drums always brass?

I also noticed the huge price difference between the two examples listed below. Can anyone recommend a good site to buy them from?

Precision drums: (Near the bottom)

Drums on sale:

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Eyelets for B/O badges were/are chrome (or it might be nickel) plated brass.

The size seems to be halfway between 3/8ths and 7/16ths (13/32nds?) I make my own grommets and due to the tooling I use I have to use either 3/8ths tubing or 7/16ths, 3/8ths seems a bit too small while 7/16ths is just a hair too big (I use the 7/16ths anyhow). You also have to have the right length for your shells as 6 ply shells are thicker than 3 ply shells.

Here is a homemade grommet on a drum I just did. This one is aluminum which, while not the correct material, is at least the correct silver color for a b/o badge.

As far as commercially available grommets I'd check with Bum Wrap. They sell Ludwig repro badges and grommets that seem to be dead on.
