Pearl built a factory/warehouse addition back in the early 60's in Japan. They named those drums after the distributors. Coronet was one of them...along with Maxwin, Apollo, Whitehall, CB-700, and a whole bunch of others. Hope this helps.

Yes, That's a big help... As far as vintage value goes, what are they worth?

Here's the round up....of stuff:

It's a jazz kit in nitron like black, very good condition no major suffs of flaws in wrap, 20,12,14,14.

The kicker is it comes with nice cymbals; 20" Zyn K ride, a 16" Zyn K Dark Crash and Sabian AA Fusion 13" hats. It also comes with all hardware, 3 Dixon stands, 1 Pearl, throne, 5 cases for all components. He's asking $575.

Dang! He said the 'ZYN' word!!! Lookout!

Personally, that seems like a bit much, but it all depends on the uniqueness of the finish and stuff like that. Usually they were made with Lou-Anne (tee hee) Mahogany. That's one of several woods that are soft and porous found in the Asian area of the world. It's cheap and not real good sounding. It can be made to sound ok if you work on the wood and edges, but out of the box...blah.

No such cymbals as "Zyn K" ...I hope you mean ZILDJIAN K......Cool Dude

The kit itself......worth about $100.00....the cymbals....well if they are Zyn....throw them away! LOL If they are Zildjians.....$250-$300 with the Sabian hats......assuming they are modern K's and in good shape of course....

Yes, they are Zildjians indeed. Are you saying $250 each cymbal? This seems to be what they are going for on Eflay uh....Ebay

The cymbals are modern and in good condition.Help2

LD undervalues the kit...w/ snare it's worth about $200 unless it's a very cool old Japanese grooovy finish... in which case, $350.

The cymbals themselves are worth more than $250. A 20" modern K ride and 16" crash are worth $250 for the two of 'em, the 'hats worth another $100.

If you can talk him down to $525 or lower, I say it's a more than decent deal....if there are no major issues.

With all of the nice stuff you have, though....keep in mind Kelly, these drums won't blow you away.

As mcj says...Lou-Ann shells and relatively rough bearing edges....these will need some recuts on the edges to make sound good. I usually do a 45 bevel on the batter edges with a small outside roundover....only THEN do these sorta '60's Peearl-made kits start sounding quite decent.

Def Cant agree with you there. Those Coronet sets are the cheapest of the cheap, and the value of the entire SET is no more than 150$ and even THATS pushing it.

Those snare drums cant get thru a gig without loosening up and losing their tuning. What value is that?

I'd say, talk them down to $150, if they say no then let it go, as you will always be able to find a similar set later. When you actually see those drums and how cheaply they are made, you will be glad you didnt overpay.

Yes,some of them are garbage in fact, but there are a few that slide under and a few of us have them.It makes me wonder why 40 yrs ago Japanese drums were considered super beginner, entry level, try these before you buy real drums,POS!..So 40 yrs later...these drums are sort of ok,not bad, good for the money,decent,cool,retro,etc...what happened??

Hit like you mean it!!
