Corder Drum question

Loading...

I have a Corder snare in chrome wrap that has seen better days.

Want to do a rewrap, but have a question as to how the wrap was applied.

Was this an easy double sided tape job like Pearl used to do, or is this a contact cement job applied all over the shell and wrap?

To my knowledge, Corder never used the tape method and completely glued the wrap to the shell. I don't recall if the chrome is a PVC style or actual metal. Are you able to tell? A heat gun might be required to soften the glue and then you can begin to separate the wrap from the shell. Just be careful not to remove the outer maple ply.

No ,it's metal.

I bought some original metal wrap for my Fibes kit back in the day from him.

I was thinking that if it was tape I could maybe stain and finish the shell instead of wrapping it.

I had a Ludwig snare drum wrapped in metal. What a pain to remove! But, it all came off in one large piece after heating a small section at a time and pulling up. You'll need gloves to keep from getting burned! Good luck.
