I have a 16x18" floor tom, and i just stripped off the copper wrap and now it is almost ready to be either painted or re wrapped, Yeah i saw these on the bay also, one thing about them if the finish starts to go they get ugly here is a pic of mine!

I wonder if a good coat of canarba wax would help them from discoloring?

no, once theprotective coating is broken, these things will tarnish to high heaven, and there is nothing you can do about it, there is another thread on this very subject, from lonecomic who worked for slingerland in the 70's.

Actually, you can keep these from turning. Just like brass on a ship, if you coat them with a sealer (be it wax or lacquer or poly) it will cut off the oxygen supply from the surface of the metal and thus will not oxidize. It will work.

Thanks VM2K. I was just about to mention that bit. Gretch is an ad junky on that bit. Great on wood. Not wise on the metal. Different stuff altogether for metal. We used to fight the snot out of oxidation on the ships my wife and I served aboard. She retired a Warrent Bosn and puts me in my place when it comes to this kind of stuff.
