Love the wrap (color!)

You fiberglass fans might want to jump on this.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

shells are lined with f/glass, this stuff and its big brother the straight up fibre glass shells aern't that easy to find, especially here in australia, i have made some attempts to source drums with no luck? these shells pack a punch, so suit certain types of music and are robust.

Bill (billnvick) has been telling me about these for a two or three years. I'd never tried them, until I restored a set last summer.

WOW!

I was impressed. I've never played these wood / fiberglass ones, but if they are anything like the all fg ones... yeah.

The down side? These things weigh a ton! That's the only reason I haven't jumped on one of these yet. The older I get, the less drums I need, and the less weight I want to lug about.

I also briefly owned a Blaemire kit, but they were concert toms, and sounded nothing like the Pearl fg kit I restored.

There is no denying it, these are very desirable kits with a distinct -very pleasing- punchy sound.

I still own a 1978 Pearl Wood/Fiberglass kit. And yes, they are 9 ply wood (no reinforcement rings) with a fiberglass lining on the inside.

I've always liked the sound of mine, and it is very similar to their all-fiberglass brothers. The biggest difference is the weight -- the W/FG ones are MUCH heavier. I lugged mine around in hard cases for a long time...

As for the wrap, it is rare. Pearl did this in a red and a blue in this era. All that I've run across and owned over the last 2-3 years has been wrinkled, bubbled, split, etc. (not as good quality-wise as their other wraps of the era; i.e. my solid blue is still PERFECT). I've saved wrap that I have removed, and still have some for patching/repairing of both the blue and the red.

Help2

I have a set of 1970's Pearl wood/fiberglass (red), but I'm missing the hex tom arms. Can anyone direct me to where I can find these?

If not, I might be convinced to sell them. (I already have a 1953 Gretsch kit in sparkle red...)

There are at least 2 different style of hex shaped tom mounting arms Pearl made.....find a pic of them and post it here. I am sure someone will have one. You should also start a thread in the wanted section for it.
