convertible cocktail drum set

Loading...

Greetings,

I have been owner of HB drums for about 10 years and previously owned Moody Music in southern Ca. for 23 years.

I am reaching out to your forum for a couple of reasons and hope that I can get some of your respected opinions.

I thought I would respond to the vintage and unique post by the lady drummer regarding cocktail drum sets but since I am new to this forum and had more subject material to cover, started a new post.

I designed the retrophonic cocktail set we have had in our line for about 7 years now and since then, the cocktail drum market appears to have had a resurgence of sorts. About 2 years ago, I invented the Tranzformer, convertible cocktail drum kit that is going through the final patent process currently. I would be interested in members opinions on the set and if anyone has ever seen a kit like this.

I came up with the idea when thinking about re-designing our cocktail kit and the thought of having two kits in one with the ability to use as a cocktail set or standard drum set seemed novel. It has received quite a bit of enthusiasm from drummers at NAMM and would like to get members opinions.

We are closing out all the import parts on our site currently and have recently been making with keller shells and Gibraltar parts. I am looking for companies that may be interested in licensing this design for further development. I have been limited in my day to day abilities to work, taking care of my 91 year old mother with Alzheimer's and will be selling the drum division of Surfcity Music to help pay for her assisted living care. This has been the most challenging time of my life and disappointed that I haven't been able to do justice to the business for the past couple of years.

Please feel free to post or email me through website if you wish to weigh in or have further questions about HB. Thank you all in advance.

Sincerely,

Dave Moody

Thats awesome-

My confusion with cocktail kits has always been-

Is it the kick drum combined with the snare and tom on the side OR

The kick drum with the tom and the snare on the side?? OR BOTH??

AND-

A tom tom and tenor drum is the same thing correct?

I don't know about the sound of these, but to me with the floor tom and bass drum setting on top of eachother with rims next to eachother don't you hear alot of ring from that? It looks like the bass drum and floor tom is 18" to me thats to big of a head size on CockTail drums..I have made and played around on making these type of drums at the shop in all sizes from 15" to 20" head size from 18" to 30" deep.As far a sound i have always went back to 16" head and 24" deep....Mikey
