Continental WMP wrap from Precision.........

Loading...

Ok I did this for the forums sake. I pulled the heads and top rim and then pulled one lug off my tom for a color comparison.

the poster above me has stated that Precision has a 2007 wrap Continental Wmp is a match for Leedy or Conn era drums of the late 40's. The tom I'm using for this comparison is a December 1948 model Wmp which is the same wrap Leedy also used. the swatch is a 2006-2007 Continental Wmp swatch with large chips

I've shown pics with the wrap swatch on the Precision swatch card then pulled it off the card and laid the swatch directly on the shell for a closer comparison..Vdf I have photos for your comparison?.

According to Jack Lawton, those wraps are being discontinuted they are acetate based and they shrink over time. I'm not knowledgeable in this at all so I defer to Jack.

He said new PVC based wraps do not have this issue and are more stable. He had some of these larger chip pearls left and advised me against using them since they will change and shrink over time.

I decided not to go with them. I like the blue-ish one a lot. Oh well.

VM2K thanks for the great pictures for comparison!!! I was looking at the Continental as it has the larger chip pattern. I figured it was much brighter but also see it's more on the blue side as well. Interesting. You certainly went above and beyond to show the differences. Many thanks.

Gravy that's good to know on the shrinkage. That would certainly be a major drawback. I had no idea. I wonder if they are planning to redo this color in the newer material?

LD thank you for the info you posted as well. It's good to hear a few opinions. I like a nice crisp WMP too but with 70 years of wear and tear it's always yellow. The WMP wrap on the bass I'm getting still looks very nice. So I was hoping to get a wrap somewhat close and possibly tint it to match. I plan to experiment a bit with this. My main fear would be how the wrap would react to a tinted clear sprayed over it. And how well it would hold up. And if the wrap shrank I wonder if the tinted clear might flake off possibly.

RS I thought about leaving the tom natural finish. But I've been lusting for a old WMP kit. I could never afford a nice old Radio King kit so I'm trying to piece one together slowly as I can. Once the drum gets here I'll have a better idea which way to go. I was just trying to plan ahead a bit. I'm glad I asked!!

Great info everyone thanks so much!

Get a sample of Aged white diamond from drummaker.com. It has (or had when I got a sample a few years back) the large chip pattern with a yellowed look. Not a perfect match to faded Radio Kings but, closest I have seen.

Thanks Bobby. I have still been thinking about this. My current project includes a 13" tom that was a duco finish that's been stripped years ago. I'm not really getting the results I want with tinting the white paint and clear I used on the shell. So I've been thinking again on wrapping this one. That said DrumMaker has tons of pearl shades in the color match system and I'm sure I can find a suitable match. You must have been reading my mind I was going to dig up this post myself.

Thank you.
