Conical MIJ on ebay!

Hard to put a value on it,probably not a lot of precedence to go on.

Wonder what they cost new as compared to the avg MIJ of the period?

It has three things going for it, it is very rare, has a cool and uncommon wrap, and of course the shells are conical, whether that makes it worth almost 3 times what an avg good cond MiJ is going for is anyone's guess .

I would say it should get as much as an MIJ acrylic IMO, I could see it go from 400.00 to 500.00. I guess it depends on how much an MIJ enthusiast relly wants it.

Nice wrap, very unusual. Too bad there are no pix of the inside of the shells and bearing edges. BD hoop will need replacing, can't fix what's not there. Is this the only Trixon-esq MIJ kit to ever have shown up?

Some pictures below for posterity's sake.

I agree, super cool wrap. The rack toms appear to be normal (non-conical). Also, it is unusual to see a shell mounted cymbal holder on a double tom mount kit! I also like the fact that they are not conical, they are "tappered" according to the seller ha ha..................

I know this set well. They are "Vivants", and the seller has been trying to peddle them as some rare vintage set on par with Gretsch and Rogers.

They have failed to sell at his price for 3 or 4 times now. You would think he;d get the message.

Although I have to say - this is one of the most unusual drum kits I have ever seen. Amazing.

Certainly its an interesting set. But I have to tell you, I do not like that color wrap. Just doesnt do it for me.

I do like the "conical look" tho, and if they were so expensive I'd take a shot. $600 is too much for ANY MIJ set tho....I dont care what it looks like.

I'm with Retro...that wrap is almost trying too hard...

And I think if you're gonna go conical, you gotta be all in, that is, the rack toms have to be conical as well...and just one.

Then, I think this would be aesthetically more pleasing. And the wrap would be a little easier on the eyes...Still a cool kit though...

I think the seller is a member - I seem to recall this set in the FS section recently. Personally, I don't think they are overpriced, for something that you never see....

I once bought a house next to a railroad track and the train blew it's loud horn less than 200 feet from my bedroom window every morning at 4:30 without fail. When I listed it, an old couple came buy and bought it for full asking price on the very first day. At the closing, they explained that they just loved trains! Something for everyone.

Auto, thats a funny story...reminds me of 'My Cousin Vinnie" when the train comes by at 4:00!!

As for the Conical set, I agree that you dont see them often, but that wrap doesnt thrill me. In fact, if I bought them, i would strip that wrap and recover in Gold Sparkle.

Hmmm.....sounds like a project. :)
