color changeing?

Loading...

Hello all, I have found a tom drum that would be a perfect addition to my set-up, but it is the wrong color. With that said, is it feasible to change the color/finish with half way decent results? The drum in question is in a natural orange finish (non-lacquer), where mine is in wine red clear lacquer.

Just looking for some advice, Gene

ps. I know most would say, just buy a drum in your color. I have been looking for two years with no luck. Luck has it any time I run across the right color, it's the wrong size, and visa-versa.

Hello GRW! Is the "natural orange" finish a wrap? If so, you would first have to remove the wrap and determine if the wood grain is close to your current drums. However, if your Wine Red finish is opaque and you can't see the grain, then it might really not matter what the grain is on the tom. Let me rephrase that. If the grain is open and sucks up paint, then it will be a bit more difficult and time consuming to match colors. Next, you would most likely have to take, or ship, the drums to a professional who can match the color. You're looking at big bucks though, so you need to ask yourself if it is worth it. I'm sure there are many qualified people out there who can do this. Chris Heuer, of Huere's Drum Lab in Glendale, California can certainly do this. His website is http://heuersdrumlab.com/

Chris has done quite a bit of work for me and his standards are way over the top!

So, it's really up to you if you want to spend what it will cost to get this done. Good luck to you!
