Ran across this the other day, not sure if this was ever posted, it gives a short history on the creation of the Cocktail drum kit. It seems Carlton was an innovator like Duplex was in it's day.

Thank you for the very interesting article. I use a 1967 Star cocktail as a second floor tom. I keep it tuned low and it booms out! It's not for every song but, when used, it sounds like thunder!
