Cleveland Era Rogers 20-12-16

I just got ahold of these and don't really know their value. Several missing parts and the bearing edge on the 12 tom needs some repair. Thoughts?

Thank God the 60s are over.

With the proper restoration, you would have a very nice kit. Value is diminished significantly by the various damage, extra holes, missing parts. In top notch condition, above a thousand. Yours would be slightly less than that. AS IS...... about 500.00, but its very hard to solidly price that.

All good advice there but please don't use steel wool on anything. From the advice of the many knowlegable folks here, steel wool will leave scratches in the chrome no matter how fine the grade. That's a nice set that would be a good restore project, enjoy!

I never use steel wool, nor do I use scotchbrite pads. Say clear of abrasives.

Written elsewhere, but worth repeating. Not steel wool. Use crumbled aluminum foil dipped in water to polish chrome with surface rust issues.

This steel wool issue came up on another forum with this same kit. In my experience the use of 0000 steel wool and chrome polish produces perfectly acceptable results. Steel wool is graded 0 thru 0000, with 0000 being the finest. Try some on some throw away chrome if you don't believe me. It really does make this job easy with great results. PS I've tried the aluminum foil and Dawn methods with less success. DO NOT use any other grade of steel wool than 0000!

It s one of the raging debates in drumdom....along with virgin shells, wrap vs. wood sounding different, tape vs. glue, etc.

My experience has been the same as Atomics. You don't wanna use a brillo pad...but 0000 is good stuff. Others disagree, and I can trust their opinions are based on sound experience. It's just another of those judgment calls.

Some options are given...see which works best for you (produces best results, does it in a reasonable amount of time and labor, etc.)

Curly...that chrome is mostly rehab-able. It won't be perfect, but few Rogers kits of that era are, anymore...
