Has anyone ever tried this?

I just picked up two different drums with Duco finish. They've already flaked a fair bit, which is fine by me, but I was curious about covering the remaining finish with a clear coat to prevent it from continuing.

Spray can? Roll on? Go over the badge or try to take it off? Etc. Etc.
