Cleaning Vistalite

I have a Vistalite kit with paper sticker remnants on it. Any ideas how to get it off without ruining the finish?

Hi, I'm surprised none of the Vista Fans have chimed in, but perhaps once I start the thread rolling a bit, you'll get some other suggestions also?

We know there's products out there like Goo Gone, Goof Off, and whatnot, usually gotten from places like Home Depot, Wally World, etc. Still I would be very careful trying these on the Vistalites.

Definitely read the labels, and of course if you try them, try it in a very inconspicuous place first, perhaps at a bearing edge with hoop removed, just to make sure it doesn't in any way dull-damage the finish.

Perhaps something like a good Cleaner Auto Wax might be a better choice. Again, test in a inconspicuous place, and let the liquid work on the glues of the stickers, and then very carefully try peeling, and rubbing them off.

You might note a difference in the surface finish itself once the Stickers-Decals are removed, as the Stickers protected these particular areas for some time. It may require you to go further with the wax, or a Glaze-Polish to even the finish out some?

Hope this helps, Mark

goo gone worked for the residue from the original pink care and handling stickers but not for one pesky sticker I've been hiding behind a rims mount. I've been letting the goo gon sit on the residue and rubbing with a cloth in a hard circular motion. It hasn't worked completely. Any other ideas?

Gotta love that Goo Gone. I've used acetone (not even an industrial acetone, but a pro strength nail polish remover) quite a bit for stubborn stickers. Always worked for me, but... I am not sure if acetone has any effect on a Vistalite shell. I sometimes use the rough edge of a dishwashing pad (one of those green & yellow ones you can get from Target) or an old toothbrush and just scrub lightly above the surface of the sticky stuff (not pressing down on the shell)

I had an old Ludwig shell that some moron completely covered in duct tape (sat like that for 20 years!)Talk about residue! At any rate... it is one of those things that you will think about at... night trying to sleep and..."what if I tried this on that Vistalite shell?"
