Cleaning up a Mahogany Shell

Loading...

From Creighton

Bummer it was not what you wanted. Hope you find one soon. Here is a Mahogany clean up I did awhile back.http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=49918Creighton

Oh, that is a *beautiful* restore on that snare.

The oak tom is pretty neat, but I can see where, unless you want to say - well, the kick is mahogany, the hoops are maple, the tom is oak, and the floor tom is teak - it's gotta go. :)

Is a Slingerland mahogany tom hard to find?

Thanks!

Every Slingerland that had a wrap is mahogany first ply under the wrap. Mileage will vary how good they look once wrap removed. Suspect mahogany original finish toms are rare. Don't know.

Nothing special here but I like them.

79 catalog shows Oakwood in lacquer and oil finishes. Looks like this is what you have. Pretty cool finish you just don't see that often.

Glenn.

Here's a 8x15 concert king that I cleaned up. 3 ply mahogany. All nickel hardware. Great sounding drum ! I used a min wax marker to cover up the scratches and left the rest original.

Yeah, it's going back...if they ever respond...

Mahogany finishes are extremely hard to find. I see snares often, but toms are rare, floor toms I've never seen.

But they are so good looking, I have to keep trying. The bass drum is a thing of art.

How about finding wraped shells that are toast and re-wrap in mahogany venier? Heads should still fit etc...
