Cleaning Slingerland chrome drums

Loading...

Hi, I've a got a set of Slingerland chrome covered drums that have a little pitting, some scratches, etc. Anyone have any experience trying to clean these up, even barring the scratches, etc? I tried some brasso on a little part and it seemed to actually dull the finish!

Thanks.

Nevr-Dull chrome polishing wads.

I think they are for homies who wanna keep their pimped cars shinin', but they work great on chrome and cymbals, too.

BUT you gotta take off the lugs. The stuff is a bit slimy and messy. It also removes mild pitting.

Also leaves an after-residue so I usually then hit it with a mild household spray cleaner (like windex or fantastik, except not...because they are noxious environmentally...try Method instead).

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I think you're right, I need to see what car people are using.

I'm wondering if there's anyway to buff the surface too; one of the drums is a bit worse than the rest, but we'll see.

Nevr Dull works like a charm; on everything but these dang shells! Anyway, it is awesome on the hardware; picks up rust and grime like you wouldn't believe.

Still haven't found anything to clean up the shells though (everything I've used actually seems to dull the finish). . .

Try Flitz Metal Polish Liquid I had sucess with cleaning some real dirty Ludwig ChromeOwoods, Check them out they are in the gallery. They were stored in a damp cellar for over ten years. I also used a commercial Metal Polish called Remove by Mirandy It is a nonabrasive foam it has a citrus scent pretty good stuff.

Great, thanks. I almost bought the Flitz last week (a toss up between that and the Nevr Dull). Will give it a shot!!!

I have the never dull too. I find it works better on lugs, rims and hardware then shells. It might not be a bad idea to try the never dull first and finish off with the flitz.

Oooooof ! Cooked Egg

Sorry I steered you wrong. It has worked for me. Worst-case scenarios I have had is, after using it, I have sometimes had to wash the shell in dish detergent using only my hands (no sponge, no towel) to remove the film it can leave.

Actually I take that back. .. I ended up getting the flitz, and it still looked very dull. but then i wiped and wiped it and it started to shine back up. so i think they just need to be buffed a whole lot no matter what the cleaner.
