Cleaning Gut Snares.

Loading...

Need some suggestions for cleaning rusty old gut snares. I am thinking about starting the process by soaking them in Dawn for 24 hours but was wondering if anyone had any further ideas.

Rusty gut snares?

Gut is sheep or cat intestine (old school).

They wouldn't rust, discolor or rot yes, but not rust.

Can't do much to clean them, buy new.

Wow really ? I just thought that was the name for any snares that were individually laced through the stainer and butt end. Learn something new everyday ? Whatever I pulled off my 1940 Leedy Utility is what I need help cleaning.

You probably have wire wound silk snares. Here's some discussion on the forum: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=14688&page=2 They do rust. I don't know if they can be cleaned or not.
