I tried some Eagle One mag-chrome aluminum polish. It cuts right through the 50 years of tarnish. It's starting to look good. After my sax tech makes it play right this is going to be a precious horn.

Myself would soak in Dawn 5/95 mix D/Water 24 hrs. Rinse and 12 hrs. in 25/75 Vinegar/water solution. Rinse and a soft nylon brush scrub in a hot water Dawn bath. Rinse and dry very well. If still gray another vinegar soak rinse/dry.
If doing more than one kit or maybe doing another down the line. Get a tumbler. After the above gets the grime off. Tumble polishes the details without wearing out your fingers and taking hours at a polish wheel.
No way I would even attempt polishing a Sax. Good for you.
