Cigarette Burn on Head!

Loading...

I recently purchased a 12 inch Ludwig hand drum in mint condition! The only thing is, it has a cigarette burn about an eighth of an inch in diameter just above the logo. Damn! It's an older Weather Master head. When possible, I like to keep things original but a vintage head would be worth a fortune. I'm thinking of a circular piece of white duct tape slightly bigger than the hole but, I think that you guys could come up with a lot better ideas! Any input would be really appreciated! This is a very cool old drum. Thanks very much.

Good idea, but put it on both sides & make sure you clean the area with alcohol so it sticks.

Clear Mylar tape is another alternative. It is unbelievably strong and holds tight. Try one of the craft stores like Michael's. I would apply it to both sides though.

Please let us know what worked best

First of all, a thanks out to Oddball's first reply. Couldn't agree more! What I ended up doing after some thought was cutting out a very small circle of white duct tape and placing it over the hole on the underside of the cleaned head. Cutting out such a small piece is next to impossible! Next, I filled in the top recess on the batter side with a dab of White-Out. I'm sure that nail polish would be a lot more durable but, neither my wife nor girlfriend had any. If the correction fluid doesn't hold up, I'll repeat the process with nail polish. At any rate, the repair is hardly noticeable. I wish with my OCD tendencies however, that I didn't know the repair was made!

Thanks guys for the input!

I would have went with Tyvek tape. Thin, strong and durable. Also white.

The tape is not made of tyvek, it is used to seal the overlaps when you wrap your house.

Trust me: it's sticky stuff.
