Anyone ever strip the chrome off a brass snare with hydrochloric acid?

No, but I once knew a chick that could strip the chrome off a trailer hitch. :D

DON'T MESS WITH HYDROCLORIC ACID!!!! MUY PELIGROSO - DANGEROUS.

Best to leave a job like that to the pro's. How would you dispose of the toxic waste? Give the job to a plating shop they will be set-up for such work.

I agree with purdie. Over here in the UK we have lots of professional outlets that will strip the chrome for you. Ive had it stripped off prem 2000s and supras. Cost wise not very expensive. Dont mess with those chemicals.

Thanks guys.

No worries about safety. Have worked with this stuff before many times.

Was just wondering about it's efficiency/effect on the shell.

reverse electro plating is also an option.

Maybe I will look into chrome shops a bit more.

Disposal of HCI is pretty simple. Pour in a base(sod bicarb) till reaction ceases.

then in sealed container and off to waste disposal station.

thanx again guys
