hi everyone

I have a ludwig chrome over wood snare drums I purchased about 10 years ago.

inside the shell a stamp says it to be a 1984, It's a 10 lugs, 14x6.5, the shell is a 10 plies (not sure) clear wood. it has a keystone badge chicago with a serial number.

I don't know anything left about this snare drum, except that in 84 ludwig has moved its production lines to Monroe, and was only remaining in Chicago the top line products.

My problem is that this one sounds rubbish.. but the top edge has dents so I guess it has to be redone, and it might need new hoops too.

So if anyone knows anything about this snare. I can post some more pictures in a few days.

The Ludwig factory is not far from my house all production of Ludwig is here in North Carolina not at all in Chicago. They only make the Top end drums here not the low line stuff it is imported. Will need more pics of the drum.

84 would make sense as far as time goes. you don't see too many large keystone badges with the chicago marking. transition year for sure.

the former owner did it, there was a plug inside for some micing I guess.. but they are not original.

here are some more pics, and a few different informations than the one I believed I remembered.. the stamp says 85, not 84 and the shell is a 6 plies, not 10, but I still can't tell what kind of wood was used to make it. The chrome wrapping has rivets too, I've been told it was common for that finish.

Weren't all Ludwig chrome over wood snares during this time period the so-called Rocker snares? Maybe this is a modified Rocker snare? Just a crazy guess. Interesting dilemma.

I thought the rockers series had a black and white square badge? the main dilemna is this keystone chicago badge, which makes it weird..

your drum was at the end of the rivet period, the shell is maple, also the snare strainer is not original it should have a ludwig p 85 on it. your drum is considered a player due to the extra holes and condition, tune it up and smiles for miles, these are killer sounding drums. your drum is a top of the line snare drum at this time frame it isn't a Rocker series they have different badges than yours does. it is a rock/concert series here is a link to your drum http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1984_LUDWIG_SNARES4.jpg

You made my day!! thanks very much, then I can have its edges redone and buy it new hoops and snare strainer and...... FIRE!
