Chrome on hoops, 1950's snare, Gretsch

Loading...

I have a snare from the 1950's. The chrome on the hoops has "worn-off". the metal is now a dull grey color. Can these be re-chromed? And...Should they be? it is part of a 3 piece set. The chrome on the other pieces is fine.

Should I find a pro that does this lkind of work and re-chrome the hoops? The lugs are in fine condition.

Those hoops appear to be nickel plated to me, not chrome plated. Although it appears worn through down to the copper plate layer in some spots. I wouldn't rechrome. I'd just try buffing and polishing them up as is. You might be pleasantly suprised at the results.
