Changing exterior of drum

Loading...

Hello, am new to this site but have been on and off drumming for 30 years, have an early 70s 5 piece set of slingerland drums and also a 9 piece early 80s gretsch set. Was wondering has anyone ever taken off the old finish of an old drum and replaced it with a new finish? Does this de-valuate the drum? How hard is it to do?...thanks .... Johnflower

Yes, it devalues the drums to recover them. If, however, your goal is not to sell them, and you want to do it because the original is damaged, then it can be done. I would call it a rather involved and difficult job for the average person. I would advise against it.
