I will take a stab at this, but the history is convoluted, and I am drawing on my feeble memory. Please only use the dates as suggestions, not verified.
Both companies are British.
Carlton goes back to the '30's.
Dallas were owners for a fair stretch of the Carlton story.
Dallas at some point in the '60's developed business relations with Ivor Arbiter, hence Dallas/Arbiter.
Dallas/Arbiter founded the Hayman drum company which was apparently named after one of the Dallas employees in the drum factory. Go figure, but for a bit of luck Haymans could have been Nigels or Throckbottoms, etc.
Arbiter went on to the Autotune project sometime in the 70's.
Anywho, Carlton had a solid pro reputation in the Danceband world. They also held a dominant role for a while in pipe band drums. Bobby Graham used them all to death in the UK studios and talked about his kit in a recent Classic Drummer mag. There are some pics on his website:
