I posted a question, wondering if anyone knew what happened to Carl Wenck but either I posted incorrectly or it was removed (?). Just curious if anyone has talked to Carl Wenck in recent days. I had talked with him many times over the years and finally met him in person at the 2010 Chicago Drum show, where we discussed the possibility of Carl writing a new Slingerland book. Unfortunately, that was the last time I heard from him. Carl's a very nice guy and really knows Slingerland history.

Thanks,Dave. I tried e-mailing him on several occasions but never heard from him.
Ditto to all of the above....Dr. Wenk is a plethora of knowledge, it's a shame that he isn't around, not criticizing him just disappointed that we can't access his vast knowledge of Slingerland.

He used to be a part of this forum and contributed articles on Slingerland. I wonder if the moderators know what became of Carl.

Hey Mark!
Well... kinda. I was scheduled to attend/display with David Anfuso at the 2010 Chicago Vintage Drum Show in the Slingerland drums tribute area. ( two of my Buddy Rich model snare drums were displayed in a re-creation of the ACTUAL page featuring those drums out of the Slingerland catalog ) Carl Wenk and I were both going to "work the booth" so to speak, and meet as we had been chatting numerous times via email. I ended up not being able to attend due to gig concerns that weekend, and as I recall... Greg Potter ended up with MY Slingerland shirt! Bastid!

Tommy thanks for the info. I've read most if not all the articles here Dr CJW wrote here. It was some of the very first vintage Slingerland material I came across getting back into it again a few years ago. That led me here. Will be looking for his new book. Also Tommy......hope you still are thinking about doing the same one day! ;)
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Thanks, Tommy. That Slingerland display was fantastic and everyone I spoke to loved it. That's where I spent some time talking with Carl about his book. He had asked me if I would contribute some photos to it, but after several unanswered e-mail messages, I assumed he had simply vanished. I hope Carl is simply "laying low" and surfaces someday soon.
