Capelle Rosewood

Loading...

This one was among the last built by French factory Capelle before it closed down in 2010.

This 5.5" snare is in brazilian rosewood. The wood has dried more than 40 years before being used.

Highly powerful snare that I tamed down a bit by switching from die cast to 1.6mm hoops.

That is an incredibly beautiful drum. The tube lug design is superb and I'm a sucker for natural wood finishes. Interesting design on the strainer as well. Do you know if the lugs and strainer design were proprietary? I'd love to get my hands on ten of those tube lugs for my next snare project.

Wonderful aesthetics on that drum. If it plays/sounds half as good as it looks, it's a killer.

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks for the kind words. ;)

The lugs are quite common: they can be found on STDrums.de website for instance.

The strainer is a repro of old Asba strainers: very smooth and precise. Quite difficult to find one nowadays.

I am thinking about removing the poly coat to get the bare wood just protected by a shellac coat and substitute those lugs by straight tube ones. But it's not a priority

Here is the internal

Purdie nailed it saying that this snare drum is 'incredibly beautiful'.

Can't say it better.

If you don't mind my opinion concerning the alternative surface look: I would leave it as it is. The shiny look of the shell surface complients the bright chrome of the lugs. And I guess it's also a better surface protection against dents (although I would handle this snare drum, if ever playing it outside from my home, with kid gloves ;) ).

I'll echo everyone else.... Great looking drum.

I am a huge fan of wood snares and was also immediately drawn to the strainer and lugs.

Another big "thumbs up" for this drum. I, too, was drawn to those lugs and strainer. A beautiful drum!
