Capelle 10-piece TURBO- awesome!

Loading...

This is my favourite all-time drum kit. I bought it in 1982 and 'gave it away' (fool) in 2004 when I moved from Scotland to live abroad!

As you can see it was (is?) an awesome 10-piece kit of 'monster' proportions starting with 22x32 bass, mounted toms from 6" - 15" (3 on top of bass), floor tom 16" and 14" x 5.5 steel snare. The hardware was amazing for the time with chain driven hi-hat and bass pedals, heavy-weighted stands etc. Having not played for some years I recently 'bit-the-bullet' and purchased a cracking TAMA Superstar Custon (Titanium Fade) for work with a Rock/Soul/R&B band. On returning to Scotland next year I am going to try and hunt down my old Capelle!

Good luck. The only Capelle gear I have seen is one bass pedal (not the one with the post that spans the rims) which I bought forthwith.

I remember reading Henrit's articles about them at least 100 years ago (give or take)

The people on http://www.ladrummerie.com/index.php have been pretty helpful to me when seeking info on Capelle. (I used Google translate to translate my text)

Never heard of Capelle. Interesting layout and that kick is very odd to my eyes. Would love to hear one in person.

Good luck finding your old baby.

Hit that kick batter on a Friday and the sound comes out the other end on Monday!

Welcome to VDF! That kit is a first for me. Never seen another one like it.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Jacques Capelle only closed his shop last year, having built fine quality handbuilt kits in his rather small workshop.

For a short period in the seventies, he also made the drums sold under the "Orange" marque.

You can read a nice article here:

There are still some videos on Youtube making advertisements for his work:

I bought this exact kit (though I sold it on, including the 10" I had him make me as an addition), one of the last to leave the workshop:

There are catalogues at http://drumarchive.com/capelle/

and

I have a very nice 1978 Orange in real african mahogany - real thick layers, and nice art deco hardware:
