Can't post to Cymbalholic.com

Somebody call my name? The story: the site is very ill due to the software upgrade. One of the most recent symptoms is that the Cymbal Talk forum no longer allows posts and anyone trying keeps getting system messages. The other forums work (but still poorly) for now. I started a few threads in other forums to test that, and I posted into a thread in the testing section which Jabez had started. Jabez then moved the thread into the Cymbal Talk forum, which worked...but then Jabez couldn't move it out or delete it. So my post was actually made in the Testing forum. It would be ironic if it was the last post to get into the Cymbal Talk forum. If you followed the links on DFO to the things about vBulletin 5 you will see that it has killed a number of previously lively forums around the world. We are the latest casualty. Pretty much dead now. :(This VDF forum continues to run on vBulletin 3.6.8 which was back well before the software rot set in...good call.

Ah Thanks. I knew you had the answer. This explains the test thread in the Cymbal Talk forum and your post in it. I really didn't try to post anything to the other forums and in fact haven't even looked at them recently. I wonder how long this is going to take to resolve.

You are both correct and incorrect here: it is correct that there are major problems over at Cymbalholic. Visitor numbers have dwindled since the forum was "updated" to its current, superbuggy state. But it is not correct that no one has posted there in a week. I posted there yesterday, and so did several others. The Cymbal section of the forum, however, has not had any posts for a week or so, due to the buggy state of the whole forum./Magnus

Thank you. I have not been able to really get comfortable with the new interface, the look or the feel, and even when working it was seemed sooo slow to post anything.

"software upgrade?"

Then maybe a downgrade is the answer. You know….back to what it was before "new and improved" happened.

Agree! Newer isn't always better. Anyway, I'm much more comfortable here. :)

I'm sure this isn't sitting well with Chad or Patrice either. When they do get things back in order members will no doubt return.

I haven't been there much lately and when I do stop by find it a chore getting around the site. I hope things get fixed up soon.

They have gone through excessive down time in the past. I always wonder why they still keep it going after all these years.

Because there's obvious interest and IMHO a need for it. It's a great site with honorable membership, engaging conversation and a fantastic Marketplace. A touch of Jazz snobbery perhaps but still excellent, even for the Rock player.

I understand all that but it is a huge effort and often a huge headache for them.

On a related subject germane to this conversation, didn't I read about this site having something upgrade-like, in the works? I don't know all the ins-outs of the computer/forum bulletin-dot-whatevers, but hopefully they do, and don't upgrade this site to that mess they have over there at the cymbal site.
