Can you save basdrum hoop witch is out of roundnes?

Loading...

Hi.

I am going to buye some stuff, but sellers said that both 24" basdrum hoop ( wood , maple ) is out of roundnes. I do not know "how much" it´s out of roundnes, and how ( hoope is maybe no more like O , it could be now more as 0 = if you look front of the hoop / OR, if its out of roundnes if you look from the side,(so it no more like I than more like I ) = I hope you understaid what I mean)

And that it affect tuning badly, he says.

So I guess, they are prety much out of roundnes.

My questions is , is there something I can do by my self to save it?

I guess that humidity , or bad tension made it goes out of roundnes.

So, maybe I can put soem wather back on hoop, put something heavy on it, let it dry, and that way get "it back in roundnes"?

Any idea???

I did get a 14 inch wood hoop back to round and flat by steaming it and fitting it on a crochet hoop once.....

The same principle might work for you.

It would be one heck of a big crochet hoop though.

Thats sound good.If it work with 14", - it SHOULD work with 2 24" hoops too - maybe...

I will try. How long time did you "steam " hoops - and how long time did it took to dry them out, afther that?

Sound like nice projeckt next friday in "sauna" with beers and friends.

Could be new swidish tradition - get hoops round :Santa:

Mine didn't take long at all, bout 30 minutes.

But, I had a huge pot of water going, with a colander set in it with the hoop in it, and a big restaurant sized mixing bowl inverted on top to keep the steam in.

I stopped steaming when it felt pliable, just kept checking.

I got lucky in that I didn't wrap tape or something around the scarf joint first to keep the glue from letting go and it didn't.......

Thinking back, I think I would do that if I ever go there again.

I slipped it on the crochet hoop, pressed it down on a flat surface till it was even all around, and cinched a web belt around the whole dealeeo.

I let it dry for a week or so, I really don't know when it actually was dried out, but it was after 7 or 8 days had passed.
