Can you ID this Premier snare drum?

[FONT="Verdana"]I've been trying to figure out what model of snare this is for a while now. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as tho there's much info online for older Premier drums, except for REALLY old stuff. I don't think this is that old. To my knowledge, a friend purchased this snare, new, along with a Tama Starclassic Performer kit, from GC back in about 97 or 98. But that's the thing, I'm not sure if the snare was actually new or not.

Here's the info that I know about it so far:

It's a 5.5"x14", 8 lug snare.

It's an amber sort of satin stain/lacquer finish on the outside.

The inside appears to be unfinished.

It looks as tho it's a 5 ply shell, or maybe 6...

The throwoff and butt plate appear to be genuine Premier hardware, as I've seen both on other Premier snares online.

The lugs are either brass or gold in color, not chrome.

The Premier badge is a thick, raised plate, not a simple metal badge typically found on drums.

There is no serial number anywhere on the drum. Trust me, I've looked everywhere. But there is a tiny stamp inside the shell, just under the bolts for the butt plate, that is simply a capital "S".

Other than all of that, I don't know much. I'm not sure what the shell is comprised of, or what year it may have been made. As I said, it was supposedly bought new in about 97 or 98. Now, for the pictures.

Note the brass/gold lugs and the raised badge/plate.

It looks like it's a 5 ply shell, with matching, dual inner and outer plies and a darker (mahogany?) center ply.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Obviously I'm mainly looking for the model, year range and what it's made of. Thanks.

I think the dates you've been given are pretty accurate. The drum's certainly mid to late 90's. Premier didn't have those lugs for the first part of the 90's and the chunky badge is the same type that I have on my 1995 Premier Genista kit. I'm not sure what model, though. Probably an xpk or xpk - it's not a signia cabria or genista I don't think.

Tama Superstar, 22, 22, 16, 14, 13 Desert Burst
Premier Genista, 22, 16, 13, 12 Black Lacquer
Premier Genista, 20, 14, 10 and snare Black Lacquer
Premier Resonator 22, 16, 14, 13 poly creme/black
Zickos 22, 16, 14, 13, clear acrylic and snare

Apk or Xpk,whichever was the upper end I think Xpk.early mid 1990's sounds about right.A friend of mine had a full kit like that,it was a special edition 10"12" 15" 15x20 kick, but they sold reg configs too.The shells looked like yours, not a real glossy finish, and the shells were inner and outer ply of birch with three core plies of eucalyptus.Nice drums,my friend had to buy extra lugs for his snare, but he was one of those guys who tensioned his batter snare head higher than the reso and cranked it to tabletop territory,he never had problems with the toms or bass. At the time those drums were some of the most pro looking and nicely appointed entry level drums on the market, one of the first entry level kits with a wood finish and maybe the first that offered a wood snare drum.
