Can you guys identify this kit? Possibly Japanese, mid-60s, 4 photos

Hi guys, just joined. I'm having this kit delivered to me tomorrow morning. Buying on recommendation from a friend, who has recorded it in his home studio and it sounds great. I have not yet seen the kit in person. He wants $250 for it, and I think that's a good deal. No snare, just the toms and kick. 12, 13, 16-inch toms, and 22 by 16 kick I believe.

He believes it's from the mid-60s, and a Japanese/unbranded kit.

Thank you for ANY help, especially if you guys can respond in a timely manner.

I think its a great looking kit, some of the old stencil kits sound pretty darn good, so I say if the drums are in good shape, I mean in round and solid, then 250.00 is a fair price but I wouldn't pay much more than that. You will have to play them to decide for yourself, if possible. I love the silver sparkle.

Thank you!

Those are Crown/Hoshino drums. There are differences of opinion here regarding the origin of Crown drums. I believe, due to the lug and hardware design and luan construction that they are one in the same company. And they look to me like a rewrap, but heck, that in itself is a good portion of that $250. Very pretty looking set.

Great looking set. MIJ sets can sound good with decent heads and tuning. Enjoy! :)

I've also heard applying a couple coats of poly to the insides will help too.

Gorgeous! I'll bet it's a re-wrap [and a darn fine one too] and I'll bet the kick is 22X14".

...and I'll bet you're gonna love em!
