Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here and I know little about drums, I'm more of a guitar person. I got this drum from my father who used to play it years ago in the Navy, sadly his interest waned and it sat in a box in a closet for 30+ years. I do know that it is a Ludwig parade snare made sometime between 1960-63, but that's all I know. It's in great shape, except for the head which has been well played. If anyone could help me with more information, like history or approximate value, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm probably going to sell it on eBay or something, but I like to know what I have before putting stuff up there all Willy-nilly. Thanks!
Can someone help a noob identify a drum? Last viewed: 13 hours ago
Appears to be in great shape. The information that posted is correct. With that badge and being a pre serial model places it in that time frame. Might even have a date stamp inside it if it wasn't wiped off, which is easily done. Probably has brass hoops which is a nice bonus. You can tell by trying a magnet on them. It won't stick if it's brass. Can't tell the size to be sure. Most likely a 10x14 or a 12x15. You measure the shell only. You should be able to tell by measuring across the head though as far as being a 14 or a 15. Prices are all over the board on marching snares. Some people want them for what they are. Some covert them to floor toms. Some part them out if they have issues. That one looks like a gem and should stay the way it is. My high school colors were blue and gold actually! That what colors I'm seeing on yours anyway. Good luck.

Wow, thanks so much for your help! I flipped it over and looked inside, and sure enough there's a date! The last two digits are kind of blurry, but I'm 95% sure it says Nov 8 1963. I might be able to tell for sure if I took the heads off, but I don't want to do that. I measured it and it looks to be a 12 x 15. As far as brass hoops go, I'm not quite sure. The part of it that is attached to the drum is magnetic, but the lip that sticks up past the head is not. Thanks again for your help. I'm going to list it and, if it's kosher, post about it in the for sale forum.
It is blue and gold sparkle, which is also the colors of my high school! Where did you go?

I had a feeling that was a 63 drum. Not really sure why though! I graduated from Sumter High School. Sumter,S.C. circa 1983.

That's on the other side of the country from me! I graduated from Stafford High in Virginia in 1999. Our mascot was the Indians.
