Can anyone tell me what this wrap is?

Loading...

The so called roger's floor tom has no badge or anything to indicate it is a roger's. I bought it off of ebay a few yrs ago and it was listed as a rogers. I tend to agree that It may be something else, but it does have rogers legs on it. never the less i am planning on re wraping it to match my 60's ludwigs,, if I can find the matching wrap. i will post more pics of it tomorrow probably, Thanks for all the input y'all.

From Rich K.

That floor tom looks like a Slingerland with added Rogers legs. (Or someone changed all the lugs and maybe the top Rim...) Doesn't look like a Rogers...Show a pic of the interior.

Precisely...and...Hopefully.

It might also just be a Japanese Slingy ripoff...in which case, if it's not a thin-ply shell with re-rings...it's likely a 6-ply Luan. A pic of the shell WOULD solve this Q.

I might suggest you seek another FT for that kit if it's a thick-shelled Japanese, because sonically it couldn't hang with the rest of the kit unless you reworked the edges.

Also....those Rogers legmounts and legs are worth a good $100 altogether if you wanted to recoup some $ on the sale.....

Also, here's a BIG problem when trying to match an old faded Luddy Marine Pearl wrap....you can't do it with new wrap.

NOW, maybe you can, because drummaker.com has the custom-colored wraps available, so you could try to match a swatch of the custom-color to your vintage Luddy wraps. But the stuff ain't cheap. But you should ask Andy over at drummaker.com if it can be matched.

Or, stay the more economic route and just use the standardly available pearl from Precisiondrum.com, it'sll just be a darker shade than what your vintage Luddies are now.

Good move.

You may well have to speak to Andy via telephone regarding the custom-color match, if that is the route you end up taking. He's the proprietor and really the only guy there who knows 100% about it.

I recieved ssome wrap samples from jammin sam today. His vintage sky blue pearl is almost a dead on match. I ordered a wrap for my 20" floor tom and for a 6 1/2 X 14 snare, assuming I find a old ludwig shell I can restore. I also ordered 16 new lugs. total cost was right at $200. lol Im a drum physco! I shoulda just resold the floor tom and put that money with what I just spent on it and bought Kelly's jazzfest snare. Oh well!

That wrap is very nice and easy to work with. A word of warning, you gotta clamp the sh#t out of those taped seams once it's on the drum. MINIMUM 24 hours...I would suggest 48 hrs, personally.

Sure you could have come up with an EASIER solution...but what FUN is that ?Falling Do

Thanks for the tip. I will start planning on how I plan to clamp it. I have c clamps, bar clamps, wood clamps, and several vise grips. Perhaps I should wrap it, then lay the seam touching the work bench, stick a big wood rod through the drum and screw it to the table, squeezin the seam against the table. What do you think?

Thanks,

Poppy
