Hi people, can anyone help identify this snare,it has fairly unusual lugs, any info appreciated, also what does anyone know about New sound and Ajax snares ?cheers.
Can anyone identify this ?
Looks like Leedy to me.
1959 George Way BDP 22/12/16 w/ 5.5x14
1959 George Way Green Sparkle 22/12/16 w/5.5x14
1961 George Way Blue Sparkle 20/12/15
1961 George Way Jelly Bean 20/12/14 w/4.5x14
1960’s Camco Oaklawn Champagne 20/12/14/16w/5x14
1971-73 Camco Chanute Walnut 24/14/18 w/5x14 COB
The lugs and tensioners do look real similar to this old Leedy parade snare.

But the throw off is clearly not a match...
That's a late '20s Leedy Professional in nickel. There were some almost identical copies of Leedy made in England at that time as well. It should say Leedy on the knob of the strainer and on the top rim. If not, it could be a Wurlitzer or Conn, who sold Leedy drums at that time, or it could be an English clone.
Hi,How do you know all this stuff from such a poor picture.Incredible.It probably is a clone then as I'm based in the U.K,so does thet make it worthless ?Is it worth buying purely out of interest,Cheers,Ewen

It's worth buying...the the throw-off alone is worth $100. The few "clones" I've seen, didn't have the correct looking hoops that yours has. If the head is a regular 14", it may be an American Leedy. If the head is around 13 1/2" it may be made elsewhere. Either way, it should clean up to be a real nice drum.
O.K Rich,many thanks for that.
