Can anyone identify this Tempo Snare?

I think I have to think over the matter with Majestic once again. Your pic. doesn't show Star-like lugs and this metal shell looks slightly different to my Star metal shells as well ...I'll investigate in this soon.Edit: it's curious: many 'Majestic De Luxe' drum pics on this forum indicate 'Made by Star'. No doubts. But the lugs above? I'm not sure, as they are not the common Star style. Do you have a pic of the strainer as well?Cheers, Ralf

Hi Ralf - yes this snare is Pearl all the way. These were produced during their battleship lug era (and perhaps before and/or after). I have had several and indeed seen these features badged Pearl.

This snare has since been restored, including a period correct muffler, though no pics of it since the restore. It is my "daily driver".

Thanks for all the info. This drum is in great condition and the sound is actually not bad. However, I just have too many snares (see the pic) and I just can't keep this one.

One thing I like about eBay, if you do a nice auction with good pictures and a fair starting bid, it will usually sell for what it's worth. If I loose a couple dollars, it's not the end of the world. I usually like to break even, at least but I have sold almost all the snares in the picture so I know I made a buck or 2 here and there. As long as it all comes out in the end. LOL

Thanks again to everyone for the incredible information. This place is truly amazing.

I would say that yes, you paid too much for that snare. At the same time, sometimes people pay more than usual based on availability at that moment and that it perhaps is a great match for their kit. Generally speaking these MIJ snares are not worth 100, but sometimes people give more than typical prices. I would say these snares are generally worth between 40 and 80. Everything is subject to any one person's obsession over something - as most of us here can testify to. ...John

+ 1 ! I can't say it in better words. Thanks, John

I'm confused now, really.

If you search for 'Majestic' drums throughout this forum, there are lots of pics with the same badge, but the hardware at those drums is definitely Star made - not Pearl.

It seems as if this badge was, at a certain time, used for Star made AND Pearl made drums then ?

Would love to hear Mikey777's opinion on that - it appears that he is off for several months at the moment ...?

@KapperDog: impressive collection of snare drums, Sir! Cool1

Ralf -

There has been a thread about this snare shell already (I recall) but I believe it is a simple solution.

I believe that the American retailers got the toms and BD from Star, then got the snare from Pearl - and used his Majestic badge on both and put it together. It is indisputable that the Majestic Deluxe toms and BDs are STAR - and it is indisputable that this Majestic snare is Pearl.

It all happened at the retail level and Star and Pearl never went in together on the deal - shoot - maybe they did - would not be surprised if these Pearl and Star reps knew each other and on day they decided to do a deal together?? Point is when we are talking about stenciling and 'house kits' and all this business - anything goes.

BTW - I have had at least 4 of these Pearl snares and the hardware is the same as another Pearl made wood snare I have had for years.

In fact - there is another one of these Majestic snares on Ebay right now!

Thanks again for all the help, gang. I listed it here on eBay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221403335835

I found the paperwork and I had a little less into it than I thought. I paid about $85 including shipping. If the free shipping doesn't kill me, I might almost break even in the end.

Thanks again.
