These are for sale here in NZ. No information on the brand from the seller so I hoped someone here might recognise them. Thanks

Seem to be Ludwig. Strange tom mount. Marching snare made by Yamaha? or Pearl?...maybe. Tough pic on that part. The lugs appear to be Ludwig on that kit, as does the bass t's and claws and such. The wrap appears to be oyster. Hoops don't appear to be original. I see white paint and a rering in the floor tom. What's the seller asking?

Thanks for that. It's in an auction and the reserve is about $200 (about $120US). If they're Ludwig then they're sure to get a good price.DOH

Here is the only other pic the seller has posted.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Yeah here's the thing, though.

60's Japanese kits had some nice oyster-pattern wraps back then. They also had that sort of rack tom mount (Star/Tama or Pearl stencil brands) and the chrome bass hoops.

It could be that someone just switched out the Japanese lugs for Luddys. I DO agree that the FT does appear to be a Ludwig, though.

Could be all Luddys..or a Luddy FT with a Japanese bass and rack outfitted with Luddy hardware(?)

And if that's the case...honestly, the kit isn't worth more than $300usd or so.

But if it really isl Ludwig (not the snare of course), then it could get maybe $400-500usd..and you could just sell the marching snare for $50 or so...

It could be that it's a bona-fide old Luddy with consolette rail and the rack tom plate and bass hoops just got replaced at some point....

Ask to see a pic of the inside of the bass and to, shells...that will tell all.

Hi All--Will this is what i think the bass and mounted to are vintage 1960s[64-64 white painted inside shell on bass] ludwigs--why i say this look at the bass legs on the bass [left side] they are ludwig+ the bass looks to be white inside of shell--the mount tom is also a ludwig if you look at the right side you can make out the "ketstone" badge+ all the lugs on the bass and mounted tom are ludwig so are the t's and claws-- the floor tom is also ludwig if you look at the top i think that was a hole for a ball bat muffler,also if you look at the inside were the floor tom mounts are the washers look like ludwig--also f.t. has ludwig lugs on it...the white snare looks like it has a yamaha badge--.So yes for the money they are asking i would buy it...mikey

At that price, knowing the floor is Ludwig and looking at the remaining hardware and shell clues I mentioned above (and others verified), I would buy this. No doubt. For 120 US, I would buy the guy a cup of coffee and a danish, also. Good deal.

Hey, thanks for all of your help. Like I say, it's an auction so although the seller clearly doesn't know what they are, it's likely he'll get a pleasant surprise when the bidding heats up. Still, I'll be watching (and bidding) with interest. Thanks again. Andrew

I've been doing a little research and from pictures of Ludwigs with a rail tom mount this one looks to be too close to centre and the Ludy rail seems to always line up with the bass lug aimed at the centre (if you can make sense of that). The seller says there are no badges (except on the snare which is Olympic). Should any of the hardware have Ludwig embossed on it? Are there any other clues I could ask for photos of which would help identify? Thanks

Andrew

The toms and bass are 60's Ludwig. The rack tom has a japanese stencil kit mount on it and the snare is an olympic marching snare.

At the price discussed earlier, even on the off-chance this is not a true Ludwig kit, the hardware and "off" shells are still worth that price. That's what I was trying to say to you earlier. If the auction goes too high, then don't bid. There is always an unknown variable or two when you purchase items without being able to put your hands on them prior to the sell. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It's always your own call, though. On this one, good luck. I sincerely hope you snag a Ludwig kit at a good price.
