Can Anyone Guess The Year and Value?

Loading...

These may be going on the auction block and I'm trying to gather all the info I can on these drum kits.

First is a 3ply US Mercury orange agate(?) 3 pc. set...These came to me in near mint condition with some seam separation repair done on the floor tom...original cymbal arm included, but not cymbal.

Also have a Star Fantasia that I believe to be 6ply, with no rings. Seven extra holes on the top of the bass have been filled and disappear into that crazy wrap. Wrap and seams are in great shape...rims are all new replacements, as they had none and were missing some lugs, which all match now. 3 drum shell pack...

Sorry, but these are the biggest pix this would allow me to upload...Any tips on how to get larger files posted?

What are the sizes of the drums?

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:

For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16

US Mercury~ Gold Agate Pearl, early 60s to 67ish, without the mounted tom, you are likely to be in the 75-125 range, maybe.

Star~Fantasia Pearl, 67-74, 6 and 9 ply shells, grey acoustic lacquer interior, this is a highly sought after wrap color, but the extra holes and missing rail consolette will cost you some. I would say 200ish is top dollar, but ebay as seen some crazy prices for MIJ kits of late. Do you have the COS snare? That would help quite a bit to have the original, era correct snare. There are very few F/P snares left in the world and they command mucho dinero, if you ever see one.

Thanks for the two cents, Jonni. The Fantasia did not come with a snare but I've been using a chrome mid-line Slingerland that will be sold with the kit in hopes of moving it quicker...

That should help quite a bit. If I had the money, I would take the Fantasia myself, but alas, the economy has all but killed me.

This is what i think of the value of these drums..The Mercury set i would break the set up because of the missing mounted tom...I would think the snare would sell for 50.00-75.00, the bass drum 100.00 to 150.00 the floor tom 100.00 to 150.00 because of the color..Now on to the Star set i would sell this as a 3 pc,bass,f. tom.mounted tom.I have posted before on this site that a 16x16 floor tom same name same color sold for over 250.00 on ebay..So i would list the set on ebay i have no problem seeing the set sell for 450.00 to 600.00 for the drums, because of the rare finish...By the way if you need the tom rail mount complete i have them...Mikey

I never even considered busting up the US Mercury, but that is a great idea. I just assumed it'd be most valuable as a (almost) complete set. Thanks for the idea!

Would you like to sell the Star Fantasia set? All or part of it? Please let me know. Thanks,
