Can a Slingerland Epic Beater be Cleaned?

Loading...

All,

I'm working on cleaning up an old Slingerland Epic pedal (as best I can) and the fuzzy beater is very dirty. Is there any way to safely clean these? My wife thought steam might work but testing a small section had disastrous results...the "fuzz" started separating. An eBay listing describes these as "lambs wool". Are they? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dan

If it is lambswool.. which it looks like, it can be washed with some clothes washing detergent, rinsed and dried.. which will take a while...

(on a lighter note... you could try some doggie shampoo and then fit it with a flea collar)... :)

Cheers

The simple answer to your question is yes they can be cleaned but it will fall apart on you if you do. I've tryed quite a few and they all ended up the same. The trouble is underneath the lambs wool is very brittle. As soon as you put any sort of "rubbing" preasure on it it will just start falling off.

The only thing that I did do was just a little soap and water in my hand and very gently gave it a massage. You can however clean the shaft and washer if you unscrew the top fixing screw or nut pending which sort you have.

Thanks Dave. I'm going to make like Sir Paul and Let it Be (dirty that is). I did notice how easy the wool comes out when working on a test area. I'm going to quit while I still have fuzz.

I would use a time tested product like "Woolite",which was made for cleaning wool.
