Can A Brother Get A Hand IDing This Snare Drum?!?

Loading...

Wow! That has to the most elaborate tone control/dampening system I have ever seen in a drum. Looks like the inside of a super sensitive on steroids!

That explains the hole over the strainer. It's for that big-ass handle for the tone control. Interesting engineering going on there.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I'll agree with MIKEY. There will be a 3rd screw. The pic Purdie posted was the first lug used, pretty much a BD lug from the 50's.

This version (Art Deco) is the 2nd type made, the first being a bit thinner, like the ones in Pudrie's pic and tapered to more of a point at the end.

When you remove the lug it should be a closed back (plastic or metal backing where the insert goes). If it does, this would be from the late 70's to late 80's.

The wood finish would have original.

Thanks MIKEY777,

I looked at the drum on eBay, and it looks pretty damn close except that the drum on eBay had some nice reenforcement rings and mine does not. However, i took the previous advice and removed the lugs from the side of the drum, and i'll be damned, but it appears that these really are the original lugs. That hole in the middle of the shell, in which i thought was an indication of different hardware, really is a hole for a 3rd screw. The lug hardware itself also has a spot for the 3rd middle screw (see my new attached images). Also the Mahogany wood under the lug hardware is really bright and clean, so im guessing that this drum really was never wrapped, as none of the holes under any of the hardware lugs show signs of being stained or revarnished. Thanks for all your help fellow drum peeps, i'm a lot closer to figuring out what and when this drum is from, Thanks!!!!

Also another development, i found a very very faint # on the inside of the drum that says - S8 -. So I'll now do some searching to see if i can figure out what that means. Thanks again.
