I think it is actually a decal of some type or hand done and then lacquered over as near as I can tell. It really looks nice in person.

These were hand done. Not a decal.

Small world. Just confirmed...same kit. I gigged them for a few years. Congrats..they are one of the best sounding bop kits I've ever played.
