Surprisingly, the drum wasn't submerged in the sludge. All the 'stuff' was on the outside of the drum. Again, this thing was wrapped in contact paper on top of the wrap.

I've had it for a little over 4 years and there is no adverse smell and absolutely no water damage.

Actually, how much wood could be exposed on a wrapped drum with both heads on it? Provided the vent hole, if there even is one, wasn't face down in the water, I would think that this would be a big old bass drum boat floating along the sea of excrement. Given this assumption, the cleanup would be simply to disinfect the non-pourous plastic and metal components, which is done every day in hospitals, clinics, etc. and it is a sweet drum!
