I have the 453 in playing condition. Odd drum (but in a good way) It has a rich sound - very maple. However, the combination of a non original top rim and the undersized shell means there is not enough clearance for me between the top of the rim and the head, to comfortably play it. Rim shots are nearly impossible and cross stick not much better. Can anyone give me the height in total of an original rim? Thanks very much.
Camco snare question
I'm not familiar with the Model # 453 Camco. I believe the 14x5 Aristocrat was Model #450 and the 6.5 was #452. The Band Aristocrat which was an 8x15 was Model # 456... I have an Oaklawn Aristocrat #405-L with the early style COB tall hoops and the height on these is 1 1/4". Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Bob

Sorry - I did mean the 452. Thanks Bob. Very helpful.
Paul, I guess that you have either tried an old head frame as a spacer.. or are looking at a more permanent fix??
Cheers.. and Happy Easter to All...

Just measured mine and it is indeed 1 ¼" on the originals - am currently using a 1 ½" on the batter though for a bit more depth. But by this stage of the game Camco were just using generic MIJ steel so anything of that ilk should work and they were all pretty much the same. I've never found them that "rim sensitive" before. If you're gigging in and around the city this long weekend, give me a yell. Maybe we can meet up and I can compare it to mine.
