Well, here is my approach to plugging the four 3/16" holes. The holes in the shell are super clean so I do not want to attempt to make them bigger. So I used 5/16" wood plugs with circles of wrap that were cut with a 1/4" hollow chisel chucked up into the drill press, thank you Glen for that brilliant idea!

Now, I have glued the tiny wrap circles to the wood plugs with good ole wood glue, Tight-bond 2 to be specific. After several hours of drying I will drill a small hole in the bottom of them so they can be screwed onto a shaft that came with my Dremel tool. Now I can turn them down to fit the holes in my shell to perfection. I will have a slight taper to them, and the best part is the wrap circle is now absolutely perfectly flush with the plug.

Now, I have not succeeded yet as the plugs are drying right now. But I did do a test run, one plug that had the wrap dry for one hour or so, it worked very good, I just sanded it too much and it fell through the hole. When I do it for real I will take the drum out to the shop so I can fit them as I go.

More later.

Thank you!

Second task was to solve the problem with the "ugly" holes. I took a piece of 3/8" Baltic birch plywood ( use it for drawer bottoms) and drilled a 1/2" hole with a forstner bit in the drill press for a nice clean/square hole. Then clamped that over the "ugly" holes to use as a guide. Used the same forstner bit and re-drilled the "ugly" hole to a nice neat one.

I had previously tested a 1/2" oak dowel rod to see how it fit the 1/2" hole, it fit perfect. So I went with Johns method, glued a piece of wrap to the end of the dowel, later on I ground the wrap down within 1/32" of an inch of the dowel on my edge sander. Then just hand sanded it to a perfect fit.

Last thing was that big 1" hole. I had some 1" plugs leftover from some newel post which I never use, so I decided to glue a piece of wrap to one of them. Then like the dowel rod I sanded the wrap down to the size of the plug.

And here are the results, I might try to make some better ones for the small holes because they could be better. The big hole I might still use a little Camco mount that I have to fill that in but I kind of like the virgin look here. But all in all, the wrap I bought from ebay matched pretty good and I am basically pleased with the job.

So here is one shot from about 12" and one from about 30". The plugs are just sitting in the shell, not glued in yet. After I glue them I will dress up the inside and touch up with some paint.
