So as you can see the toms, FT and snare are in fairly good shape. The snare drum wrap does have a split that runs parallel to the rims. The FT and toms have a little shrinkage at the wrap joint. They also have a few small creaks in the wrap. Other than that they look good. All of the hardware is of all drums is very good condition. Sooooo... The big question is?? If I have the whole set re wrapped by a serious craftsman, they no doubt would look/sound amazing. Would this be a sin? Thank you to all who engage in this conversation. I appreciate it!

More Camco kick drum.

I hope nobody says that whatever you decide to do with your drum set would rise to the level of sin. In any path you take, some folks may say it is a shame. However, in my view you do have some very aggressive wrap failure and it has significantly impacted the external beauty and value. You are correct that set will sound great, and that will probably not be affected at all by the wrap one way or the other. If it were mine and I was going to keep it, I probably would put new wrap on it because i would want to to look really beautiful again.

Tough call. Do you have the missing pieces from the bass wrap? My vote is that if you could secure whatever is left of the bass drum wrap w/adhesive I would not replace the wrap. Nice drums!

I think if the condition of the wrap would affect the integrity of the shell, then re-wrapping is called for. Big enough cracks expose the wood ~unevenly~ to the elements. Other than that I agree it's a tough call [but not a sin], especially with the toms being so nice. At least really try to match the bass to the rest.

There was one of these kits posted on the DFO not long ago, same wrap in the same poor condition. Almost identical. There was a bit of controversy about some damaged shells which weren't mentioned in the eBay advert - hope it's not the same kit! :)

Anyway, it seems this particular wrap is very sensitive to whatever environment it's in, as I would imagine all wraps are, but this damage looks unique to this particular wrap, judging by the two examples I've seen lately. Of course I'm no expert, and I really don't know what the best course of action would be - rewrapping or repair. This is why I post here and ask those who know! Good luck with it!

Same Kit. Apparently the seller did not disclose the separation (16"/inch)in the joint where the reinforcement hoop joins on a couple of the toms. This is fairly typical of older Camco drums. My '62 set has the same issue and has been stable for the past 20 years I have owned them. Zero impact to the bearing edge or tone of the drum. I will watch to make sure they don't move on this set. I guess the eBay buyer returned the kit to the seller. I purchased the kit when it was resisted. The seller was more then helpful for me. Personally, I would not pass up a opportunity to acquire a Camco kit with such provenance. (Seller was the original owner since new... Original catalog, tom key hardware, pictures though the years etc. a true no BS deal.

Again, Thanks to all who have participated in this thread. A shout out to anyone who can point me in the right direction to get the most period correct wrap for this kit. As the current time keeper of this set I want to do it justice. (I was told this kit was the actual set on the cover of the catalog. Looking at the tom holder, there is clear evidence of a third tom that has been mounted however, I no longer have it.) Cheers!

Since that appears to be a rare wrap I would think that a digital photocopy would be the only way to replicate it.
