I've never seen these tom mounts and arms on Camco drums before. Are these legit?
And did they make many 24" bass drums during the Oaklawn era?
Thanks

That is a great set you have there !
The tom mount is legit but very, very rare.
That model of tom mount can be found in the Camco catalogs but this is the first time I see it actually installed on a kit.
Oaklawn did offer 24” bass drums but they’re also very scarce. The ones known to exist all seem to be without reinforcement rings. Does this set have rings?
Normally 24” Camco bass drums should have ten lugs, this one has only eight.
I have not seen it in person.
So does the fact that the bass drum only has 8 lugs make it suspect? I was assured it was a 24" and I'd be renting a car and traveling about 7 hrs round trip to get this set.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bass drum looks like a 22" to me, but it is a very nice kit.
There are a lot of people out there who don't know to measure drums properly. Good luck, I'd make the trip just to check those babies
out in person,cool drums!
Cheers Stevo.

I hear ya, but this guy is a drummer and bought the drums back in the day.
That set is certainly worth a 7 hours travel.
I saw it up for sale last week on Ebay and at that BIN price, it wasn’t a surprise to see it disappear already after a few days. From the 6 pictures in the Ebay auction you could see that the set was in fabulous condition and appeared 100% original, including that funky tom mount. The minus is the fact that the 14” tom is from the later Los Angeles era so from collectors’s standpoint, that isn’t a real 4-piece set. The snare included in the auction was a 5” chrome over brass Camco No°99 Super model. Looking at the pictures, this one also appeared to be in immaculate condition.
My biggest concern would be the stains inside the bass drum which could have been caused by water damage.
Congratulations, I remember seeing this set go up for sale 4 years ago and kept the eBay pictures of it when it was listed for $3500.00 BIN..
The seller if I remember correctly was from Sonoma.
I'd say you got one heck of a good deal on the 24,13,16, easily worth 2K..
The bass drum having only 8 lugs per side was probably a Monday morning oops but to me doesn't really take away from the set in any way. My concern would be possible water damage because over spray was never that dark in comparison..Hopefully it's just the lighting and there's no damage..
The combination of the tom mount system, the 8 lugs and Natural Maple finish makes it a unique kit and I can only recall seeing one other 24" with 8 lugs per side..It was posted here on this forum for sale a few years back and the finish was Walnut Stain 24,12,13,16 w/o a snare drum.
Additionally your 24" kit is the only one (Oaklawn era) I've ever seen in Natural Maple. Again, Great Buy and welcome to the Camco club!!!
Ok thanks guys, its a done deal!
Both Camco and Gretsch tended to go light on the bass lugs. Others used 20 lugs on 22 and up. I have had that Camco mount setup in the past on a 20,12,14 kit. I only had the bass mount and tom mount. The center portion never came to me and I would guess the kit had a second tom that never made it to me either. I was aware that was a catalog mount, so it is legit as the guys have said and a transitional one apparently as they moved from the earlier use of two toms on one rail to the final configuration with the swivel type that was issue to compete with the Swivomatic stuff they had used on certain special order kits that you see from time to time.
As mentioned by Steff earlier, the tom mounts are legit but rare. I had an LA 24" bass drum which, from memory, had only 16 lugs but my very late Oaklawn 24" had 20 (and weighed a ton as a result) but also had a double set of spurs and was 18" deep so not exactly typical of much at the time. But 24"s from Oaklawn are pretty rare.
I'd be betting on a 22" but who knows until you see it for sure. Sounds like you've already taken the trip.
It looks stunning although there's some crazy stuff happening with the lacquer inside the bass drum (but I've seen lesser lacquer spill on the interiors of other drums too and it didn't seem to do them any harm).
