This was a single tension marching snare. The tension rods went from one claw to another grabbing the two wooden hoops so no lugs were needed. You can see examples of this all over the internet and in the catalogs in the archives linked above. Honestly if you drill it for lugs some people will throw a hissy fit but it is your drum and making it functional (single tension snares are part of the very distant past) is your prerogative. On the other hand these drums are desirable to some people who might be looking to assemble a Levon Helm type kit.

A beautiful African mahogany shell! Multijd is correct with his assessment of what you probably have. The badge was used from about 1928-1947. I have a 1930's 9x13 "Junior Boy Scout" marching drum with the same type of shell and badge!

Check that the Lug attachment screws are all there, and they thread into the lug, then check that tension rods go in/out. I don't know how long those lugs last..

If you got it for free make it into something you'll use or up to you..

My suggestion is to wrap the shell to match one of your drum sets, and outfit the shell to be a small floor tom complete with legs.. You might want to put metal rims on the drum, and sell the wooden hoops to offset the cost of making your new small floor tom.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think that beautiful mahogany shell is particularly expensive on the market or collectible, so I'd do what you want with it. My choice would be to get it professionally wrapped, install Slingerland lugs (which are always available online) and turn it into a rack tom.

If you don't own an old Slingerland set, now you have a good excuse to buy one.

That might turn out oversized if you added wrap to it.
