Calling all New Yorkers Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

I purchased my first new Rogers set in White Plains NY in 1975. Problem is, I can't for the life of me remember the name of the music store. I do remember going to Sam Ash to get a quote, but then just down the street, there was another music shop that beat the Sam Ash quote, so I custom ordered my double bass set from them (12-13-14-15, 16FT & two 22's).

Anyone from southern NY have any idea what the name of this other music store in White Plains might have been? I'm sure it's long gone, but I'd just like to know where this set was purchased so whomever inherits this kit will know its full history.

Hey we would have been shopping at the same time. :) I remember that store and used to frequent Sam Ash too. Bought most of my old A Zilds at SA in White Plains. Wasn't it White Plains Music?

No, it was a surname... Somebody's Music. Spent an entire summer's earnings there and didn't keep the receipt, but who knew? All of us here in CT used to go to NY to buy equipment because it was so much cheaper and lower sales tax.

Fraioli's or Frioli's Music? Can't remember how it was spelled but Frank was the Dad and his son (forget his name) and daughter (Faith) took over the store in the late 70's. They had a store in Greenwich CT and opened a second one in White Plains.... or perhaps Port Chester or Rye? Faith's band was Flying Island and she played violin. Sorry my memory banks were pretty fried in those days. Details are fuzzy at best. :)

I remember Frioli's, but it wasn't in White Plains. Yeah, maybe Rye. And my brain wasn't fried in those days despite the nightclub gigs; I noticed my memory got fuzzy as soon as I hit 55.

Maybe try contacting White Plains historical society, or the society for whatever county White Plains is lcoated. Or even the local post office. Some old timer there may remember.

Thanks for the tips. I'll play detective. Funny how I'm more interested in researching the origin of my drums than my own geneology. I'll post the answer if I ever solve this mystery.
